Knowing the size and the preferences of your literary penis

In his column in DER SPIEGEL Jan Fleischhauer was talking today about the overestimation of moral contribution of writers to the political scenario. Although I recognize that Jan Fleischhauen is right regarding the role of Günter Grass in Germany, one is obliged to wake up the small Aristotle in us and to distinguish between different classes of texts given authors write. Let’s give the example of Bertold Brecht: when he left his inspiration run free and was writing with the only purpose of getting rid of his uncontrollable impulse to write, he was brilliant. This part of his work is really good and has universal value. The only problem were those moments when he decided to use his talents as a writer to fight for the cause of socialism. Every time Berthold Brecht decided to use his talent, the only thing he wrote was crap. Not only a bit of crap but hideous mountain of crap. Failing to distinguish between these two kinds of Brecht’s texts may compromise the whole evaluation of the meaning of his work for humanity. Yes, Brecht wrote some wonderful pages beside the many tons of socialist crap. The lesson we learn from Brecht is that arts and talent are not something artists may have control upon. When Brecht tried to use his talent in the way he wanted, it did not work. The same is true for Günter Grass. The harder he tries to be meaningful, the less he is. He would be much better served if he would just let his talent speak the way it is and not as Günter Grass - the person- would like it to be. These guys resemble to me those guys who want to control when they are going to have an erection. They worry too much about getting it and when the time arrives... it is not there. The same happens with their writings. Günter Grass wants to write about renewable energy or immigration just because the topics are being discussed a lot on tv. His literary penis, however, is not very keen to do it. The outcome is the usual disappointment. The take home message of Jan Fleischhauer was that writers should know better the size and the preferences of their literary penises. I think I agree. But what about those cinema stars and singers fighting for big causes all around the world such as George Clooney, Sean Penn and Bono Vox? They don’t have a literary penis. They fuck with borrowed ones.

As the Brazilian writer Alexandre Soares Silva said once: “The strongest evidence that we should not listen to the opinion of singers and movie stars is that most of the time not they but other people are in charge to decide what they are going say”. Since fucking with a borrowed penis is a tremendous act of perversion, just ignore the opinion of movie stars next time, ok?

Ask the question as long as you need to get the answer you desire

Much like the political strategy of the European Union regarding the ratification of a European constitution by member states is the Brazilian policy regarding the abortion. Unpopular law projects are submitted again and again to public opinion till the project is aprooved. In Brazil there is an about 30 years old abortion law, which allows the abortion in three cases: rape, life-risk for the mother, and inviability of the phoetus. There is nothing wrong with this law, its application is quick and it is an effective mean to promote the protection of women and their rights. However, in the last 4 years at least once an year a new law project pops out, which is meant to substitute the abortion law. If this law is approved, abortion will be allowed in every case and at any time. To abort a child 5 minutes before its birth will be considered fine. Although the Brazilian population is massively against this very liberal (some would prefer to say diabolical) abortion law, specific groups of left-wing politicians submit slightly modified version of the same law project year after year. At some point in the future they will probably succeed because they have been preparing to succeed for decades. Every time a new version of the abortion law is discussed in the parliament, the level of rejection in the general population can be measured. Of course, after having discussed the topic of abortion for the nth time, citizens may get tired and want to finish the discussion forever. This is the time point in which instead of crying loud their opposition to the new abortion law, citizens will just remain silent and let obscure left-wing politicians dictate new rules regarding rights over babies’ life and death. That these projects have been systematically blocked in the last years suggests that even corrupt Brazilian politicians still have some moral values left and do not want to be associated with the abortion of healthy. The important question is how long they will hold. I bet not longer than 10 years. When this day has arrived, I will propose an even more radical abortion bill. The retroactive abortion: If mothers give their consent, anyone can be “aborted” at any time of their lives. I cannot avoid the mental picture of Fidel Castro’s mother requiring his immediate abortion. In Germany it would be the mother of Tito Bollen claiming her rights. Definitely.

Far-right politics

Have you ever heard the main media talk about right wing politics without calling it far-right politics, right-radicalism, right-fundamentalism, right-extremism? I haven’t in years. What exactly would be not-extreme right-wing politics? left-wing politics?

Boredom in Brazil

Have you ever heard that Brazilian children play football to escape poverty? I hear this neat explanation every time German television is showing some Brazilian boys playing football. I am starting to suspect, no social scientist has ever watched German TV, because this explanation is not only Marxist, it is just ridiculous. Marxists say, the means of production (infra-structure) determines which will be the social values (superstructure). That means, your moral and cultural values are a consequence of how much money you have and how you obtain it. Since there are some rich Brazilian football players it must be that the rest of the country is playing football to get rich too and that is why Brazilian are playing football. Right? No. First, Brazilians always played football and the golden era of Brazilian football occurred in a time when there weren’t international contracts and salaries were shit. Second, why should Brazilian children play football to escape poverty if only about 1% of professional football players can live from their salaries? Don’t they know that? Sure they do, everyone in Brazil does. Third, wouldn't that be a stupid strategy anyway if it were true? Sure. I can tell you, Brazilian children who want to escape poverty do one out of two possible things: they find a job from the first moment they can walk and keep working till they are rich or... they get a gun and go dealing drugs and robbing, what is far more effective. Football playing... come on, Brazilian do not like to mix work and pleasure, Brazilian just love playing football. Brazilian children are not trying to escape poverty, they are trying to escape boredom. In sports classes there is almost always only football, it is a national passion. But never mind, Marx was German and must be right: no one living outside Germany have the right to just enjoy football because they do not have the German infrastructure. They are suffering and trying to escape poverty kicking on the sunny beach.

Strangelove humble suggestions for finally making European society safe

1. Governments should stop being shy about personal surveillance policies: Every human being living in Europe should have a microchip implanted under their skin, which spots people. (a contract with Google view street could help financing the project) So European police can know at everytime where everyone has been and in whose company. This microchip system has already been used for years in domestic animals and as veterinarians tell us everyday on TV, the implantation doesn’t hurt. Anyway, British parents are already considering implanting these microchips in their children, so what is good for British children is for sure good for everyone.

2. Citizens should give up the use of every weapon (including metal forks or knives, pencil sharpeners and so on). People should finally realize they are incompetent to deal with violence and let specialists manage the situation. To keep food eatable, the EU should pass a bill regulating the maximal size of meat sold in supermarkets to be small enough for people eating it with spoons without suffocating.

3. Passengers should be hand-cuffed on their backs during flights, train travels or car drives. Trained public servants should be the only ones in charge of transporting people in cars, bikes, skateboards or any other means of transport, which can be used as a weapon. (of course only those public servants who pass the extensive police check-up).

4. People should get breath training to reduce their CO2 emissions to a minimum. It will slow down the greenhouse effect for some years for our children to see the light of life.

Junkies making politics?

If socialism (as it is defined today or has been defined before or whatsoever) is so different from the national-socialism as every left-wing person I know insists to tell me it to be, why are parties such as the NPD in Germany so strong in the German states corresponding to the former East Germany? Are people there a kind of junkies of politics to keep trying new drugs just to experience a harder trip next time? Are they experimenting wildly on new ways of life or trying to see the World from a new perspective, in this case jumping from the extreme left to the extreme right just to know how it feels? Or perhaps they are just missing the old authoritarian personality, someone who tells them whom to hate and why. For me this is perfectly understandable: since at least 1870 they are living in a highly militarized region, which has been degraded since them by a succession of authoritarian governments, these are five or six generations who never knew the meaning of the old Western concepts of freedom and Judaic-Christian culture. How could this poor people miss any traditional western value, if they have never experienced that before? In my view these NPD people are just being consequent and pursuing their revolutionary ways as the old communists and nazis always did. Shame upon those among us, who believe the NPD politics has anything to do with Western values and traditions. no, no, no, my friends... In a way these guys are political junkies, but not because of any dramatic change in their world view. These guys always thought like pure-blood communists and continue doing that, but now under the disguise of something called NPD.
